The Co-operative Financial Services offers assistance to those affected by the volcanic ash disruption

May 25, 2011

The Co-operative Financial Services (CFS) is offering help and advice to customers affected by the volcanic ash disruption.

We would like to reassure customers who have travel insurance through The Co-operative Insurance that we will honour claims for the delay or cancellation of flights and / or accommodation on an ex-gratia basis, subject to standard policy limits.

We recognise the worry that this situation may cause for customers. Therefore, although volcanic ash eruption would not ordinarily be covered under the terms of our policy, we will be honouring customer claims in this instance.

Customers with travel insurance through The Co-operative Bank’s packaged current accounts (including smile packaged accounts) will be covered on the same basis.

However, we will not be able to honour claims made by customers who were notified of the disruption at the date of taking out a travel insurance policy.

We would also like to reassure customers that ash cloud disruption will soon be included as standard in all travel insurance products offered by The Co-operative Insurance as well as by The Co-operative Bank’s packaged current accounts.

Finally, we would advise customers to contact their flight provider directly for advice on delays and cancellations, in the first instance. We would also advise customers to keep hold of receipts or proof of reasonable expenses incurred as a result of any disruption.
