Driver Jimmy comes to the rescue after power cut hits Pitlochry
Co-operative Food delivery driver Jimmy Batt was a local hero as he helped elderly and vulnerable people in Pitlochry when stormy weather plunged the town into darkness.
Bad weather caused a major power cut in the town, affecting local homes and traders, including The Co-operative food store in West Moulin Road, which was forced to close for two days.
But delivery driver Jimmy stepped in, not only taking free bread and milk to his regular home delivery customers, many of whom are elderly, but, as telephone lines were down, also checking if they had any messages or needed help to contact friends or family.
Store Manager Richard MacCuish said: “We’re proud of the role our store plays in the local community, and taking the time and trouble to check our customers were coping with the conditions, and the power cut, was something we felt was important to do.”
Jimmy, who lives in Pitlochry, said: “We have a lot of home delivery customers in Pitlochry, and many of them are elderly and vulnerable. They appreciated me taking the time and trouble to check on them, and they were very grateful for the bread and milk.”
