Soap Star Re-Launches West Didsbury Co-op
Soap Star Tina O’Brien was the guest of honour at the re-launch of the Co-operative food store in West Didsbury today (Friday, 13 November) following a £270,000 investment to transform the store for the community.
The actress, who plays the role of Sarah-Louise Platt in Coronation Street, is a customer of the store and helped the Co-op’s store team to cut the ribbon and celebrate the store’s re-launch following its major makeover.
The new-look store will have an enhanced in-store bakery, and a focus on fresh, healthy foods, meal ideas and essentials. It has a Costa express dispenser, and its new refrigeration will enhance its range of dairy, meat, ready meals and chilled products including an extended chilled beers and wines section.
The store will also launch its Community Pioneer role, where a member of the food store team, Geraldine Cole, will also work to foster involvement in community activities, from local fundraising initiatives to helping to understand and develop solutions to meet community needs including support for the British Red Cross, The Co-op’s new charity partnership which will help to tackle social isolation and loneliness in communities.
Dave Kay, Manager of the Burton Road, West Didsbury, store, said:
“We are thrilled to make such a significant investment in our West Didsbury store, and delighted that we have a fantastic new-look food store with which to serve the community – it is an exciting time for the whole team.
"The Co-operative is investing to transform and grow its convenience business, enhancing the in-store experience while lowering the price of everyday essentials. We are confident that the new-look store will be a real asset to the community, enabling shoppers to pick up delicious food conveniently and, as a community retailer and a co-operative, it will play its part in local life too.”
The makeover has resulted in the store recruiting four new store colleagues, with at least two vacancies remaining. Those interested in applying or finding out more should call in to the store to speak to Store Manager, Dave Kay.
There will be offers and promotions in and around the store to mark its re-launch. Students – who hold a NUS extra card – receive a 10% discount off their groceries in store. And, The Co-op has also announced a £125M investment in lowering the price of everyday essentials – a move which has seen it prune the price of over 100 lines of fresh fruit and vegetables including revolving offers on popular produce, called “fresh three”.
