Deanie Tots play starring role in launch of Deanshanger Co-op

Children from Deanie Tots played a starring role in the launch of The Co-op’s latest food store which opened in Deanshanger, Near Milton Keynes, this week.

The store represented a near £500,000 investment to create a new shopping experience for the community and, has created 15 new retail roles.

The children from the mums and toddler group were among the guests of honour, helping to cut the ribbon and declare the new Co-op store open for the community.

To mark the launch of the store, colleagues at the community retailer have provided a boost of more than £1,000 to Deanshanger community groups and projects, including support for the Christmas lights, Deanshanger Athletic Football Club and, for the day centre’s Christmas luncheon. Plus, Deanie Tots will receive a £200 donation towards play and education equipment for helping to launch the store.

The store will also launch a Community Pioneer role where a member of the Co-op’s food store team will also work to foster involvement in community activities, from local fundraising initiatives to helping to understand and develop solutions to meet community needs, including support for the British Red Cross, The Co-op’s new charity partnership which will help to tackle social isolation and loneliness in communities.

The new store, which is approximately 2,500 sq.ft, opens between 6am-11pm and has a focus on fresh, healthy foods, hot food and essentials. It features an in-store bakery, an ATM, a Costa coffee express dispenser, lottery and dedicated car parking.

There are offers and promotions in and around the store to mark its launch. Students – who hold a NUS extra card – receive a 10% discount off their groceries in store. And, The Co-op has also announced a £125M investment in lowering the price of everyday essentials – a move which has seen it prune the price of over 100 lines of fresh fruit and vegetables including revolving offers on popular produce, called “fresh three”.
