Community News: Totnes Co-op Funeralcare raises funds for hospice

July 21, 2016

The Co-op Funeralcare team in Totnes have raised over £600 for Rowcroft Hospice, through a recent cycling marathon and bake sale event.

Colleagues at the funeral home on Fore Street held a community fundraising day, where colleagues completed a cycling marathon on static bikes, whilst others sold a selection of home baked cakes.

Members of the community turned out in support, including local doctors, Rowcroft hospice colleagues, the local Church Minister Reverend Julian Ould and families.

Kate Parsons, Funeral Director for Totnes Co-op Funeralcare, explained:

“Rowcroft is the only hospice in our area, and it’s therefore always in great demand. Raising funds for them is vital to the community, and we’re really passionate about supporting the work they do on a daily basis.

“Fundraising events like these are so important. It’s our way of supporting local causes that are important to us and our communities.”

Rowcroft Hospice cares for over 2,200 patients and their loved ones across South Devon every year. The Co-op team have a long-standing relationship with the Hospice, and for many of the funeral provider’s colleagues, it was of personal importance as well as being a professional effort.

Debbi Shotton, Community Fundraising Officer at Rowcroft Hospice, commented:

“Being an independent charity, we rely heavily on the community for their support with fundraising. We’re so pleased that so many people turned up to support the Co-op Funeralcare team.

“We thought the cycle marathon was a fantastic idea, and we’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone that took part, and of course, everyone who donated. Now more than ever, we are so grateful for their support in helping to make every day the best day possible for local people and families living with life-limiting illnesses.”
