Peter Marks, Group Chief Executive of The Co-operative Group, has won the prestigious Grocer Gold Cup award for Outstanding Business Achievement following a public vote run by The Grocer magazine. The award is the highest accolade within the food industry and is given to the person who has inspired his or her team to achieve outstanding results over the past year.

The award was presented last night at the Institute of Grocery Distribution Food Awards in London attended by leading figures from across the UK grocery sector.

Peter Marks was in impressive company in the ten-name shortlist for the award, which included the CEOs of Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Morrisons and Asda.
In making the presentation, Adam Leyland, the editor of The Grocer (pictured left with Peter Marks centre and last year's winner, Andy Bond of Asda) drew attention to the progress made across the Group.

Speaking after the event last night, Peter thanked colleagues for their support and all who had voted for him in the grocery industry. ‘This is something we can all take great pride in at The Co-operative Group. It’s terrific to have this recognition from our peers. It acknowledges the incredible progress we have made in the last few years which is down to the commitment of colleagues right across the Group.’
