June 04, 2013

The Co-operative Enterprise Hub has scooped a prestigious national award in recognition of its positive impact in communities.

Judges at the Business Charity Awards praised The Co-operative Enterprise Hub’s “focused community impact” as it works to underpin community-led regeneration and equip people with the skills and confidence to safeguard much loved local assets.

Since 2008 The Hub’s free training and advice has supported the creation and growth of more than 1,000 member-owned enterprises, operating in all sectors from retail to renewables and, schools; community energy; pubs; sports clubs and rural services.

Michael Fairclough, The Co-operative’s Head of Community and Co-operative Investment, said: “We are delighted to have received such external recognition.

“We believe that there is a greater role for co-operatives to play in the building of a more balanced and stable UK economy.

“Communities can be a powerful catalyst for change, capable of overcoming many of the challenges facing the environment, society and economy and The Co-operative Enterprise Hub is working to provide people with the tools needed to make those changes.”

In addition to business planning, financial and legal help and support with co-operative registration and membership, The Co-operative Enterprise Hub has expanded its offering to include access to a Community Loan Fund and a new facility to underwrite community share offers.
