November 24, 2010

A Co-operative pharmacist and her team from Fife are celebrating after winning a prestigious national award.

Pharmacist Lucia Castagnetti and the team from The Co-operative Pharmacy in Crossgates received the accolade for Pharmaceutical Care at The Scottish Pharmacy Awards held recently at The Thistle hotel in Glasgow. Lucia was a joint winner at the awards which were organised by pharmacy industry magazine, The Scottish Chemist Review.

Lucia and her team were recognised for improving the pharmaceutical care of patients, including helping to improve their understanding of their medication and medical condition. The team regularly works with other healthcare professionals to implement a more integrated approach to healthcare locally and has set up a clinic to help people with asthma and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) manage their condition more efficiently.

In addition, the branch team was commended for its extensive range of clinical knowledge and commitment to learning and development, helping to enhance patient care.

Gareth Clowes, Divisional Operations Manager for Scotland, said: “Lucia and her team have been instrumental in promoting better health among the community. They play an important role in helping all groups of patients take charge of their own health.”
