Co-operative Pharmacy wins outpatient dispensing contract
The Co-operative Pharmacy has been awarded a five year outpatient dispensing contract with Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
This follows a formal tender process with an option to extend the contract for another two years. The service will be delivered for Accident and Emergency patients and outpatients from two pharmacies, one at Bradford Royal Infirmary and another at St Luke’s Hospital.
The award means the creation of 15 new jobs across the two sites which will provide the service from summer 2012.
Mandeep Mudhar, Head of Business Development at The Co-operative Pharmacy, said: “We are delighted that the Trust has awarded us the contract for these two sites. As a Co-operative business we are committed to improving the health of our customers and their communities and our growing presence in the area of outpatient dispensing means we can extend these aims to a hospital setting, bridging the gap between primary and secondary care.”
“As a Co-operative, investment in the community is and always has been a fundamental part of who we are. We look forward to implementing the service so that the Trust and its patients can begin to enjoy the benefits of the new partnership.”
In addition to maintaining the hospital’s high standards of clinical governance and patient care, the dedicated pharmacies will reduce waiting times for outpatients. Outsourcing the outpatient dispensing to The Co-operative Pharmacy will also produce financial savings for the Trust.
David T. Smith, Director of Pharmacy at Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, said: “Outsourcing the dispensing of our outpatient medication will facilitate the realignment of our existing pharmacy staff to better meet the needs of our inpatients and patients awaiting discharge, whilst also providing reassurance that the service to our outpatients will be improved with reduced waiting times.
“Having undertaken an extensive tender process the whole team here felt that The Co-operative Pharmacy’s core ethical values and commitment to service sat comfortably alongside the Trust’s core values and that The Co-operative Pharmacy would offer our outpatients a much improved experience.”
The Co-operative Pharmacy opened its first outpatient dispensing pharmacy at Doncaster Royal Infirmary earlier this year and has recently been awarded a seven year outpatient dispensing contract by Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust to provide two pharmacies.
Provisional opening times are: Monday to Friday 08.30 - 17.30 and on Saturdays 09.00-12.30.
