The Co-operative Pharmacy launches new pre-registration website and revamps placement schemes
The Co-operative Pharmacy is targeting pharmacy students with two new work experience programmes after listening to what individuals really want from their on-the-job training. The business has also launched a new website to make it easier for students to apply for the schemes.
There are two training programmes:
- Recruitment is now underway for the 2012 summer placement which will offer a combination of paid and voluntary places to enable a greater number of students to gain access to work experience.
- Applications for the 2013 Pre-Registration programme will open in the New Year.
The 2012 six-week summer placement is open to third year pharmacy students only and will offer 20 paid roles across the UK. During the scheme trainees will undertake a project to enhance their commercial and managerial skills after which they will present their recommendations to a senior manager within The Co-operative Pharmacy. On successful completion of their assessed project this will result in a direct offer for the 2013 pre-registration placement in the location where training was completed.
In addition, The Co-operative Pharmacy will offer an additional 80 places for a four- week summer placement on a voluntary basis. Students who are successful in completing this post will automatically be assessed to apply for the 2013 pre-registration programme.
The Co-operative Pharmacy interviewed approximately 300 students to learn more about what they wanted to achieve during their pre-registration year. Based on feedback the programme for 2013 has been enhanced to concentrate on the distinct areas of training, development experience and exposure to problem-solving, encouraging trainees to progress their commercial awareness in addition to clinical knowledge.
After completing the full pre-registration year individual graduates can look forward to being offered the role of a relief pharmacist. Those who perform exceptionally will be given the opportunity to be fast tracked onto the business’ Branch Manager Development Programme after six months in the role.
Applicants can visit the new website – www.co-operativeprereg.co.uk – for Co-operative Pharmacy news plus business and recruitment updates. The site also contains case studies, information about events and lots of frequently asked questions.
Hannah Moger, Resourcing Manager for The Co-operative Pharmacy, said: “As competition becomes tougher, we want to give Pharmacy students the best possible chance of getting work experience, in addition to the skills and the direction to prepare them for a career in pharmacy. Our previous research indicated that more than 90 per cent of our pre-registration students would recommend our programme so we wanted to build on this further.
“Our new website is designed to make it easier for people to apply for placements and give students all the information they need to make such an important decision.”
Current pass rates for graduates from The Co-operative Pharmacy pre-registration programme stand at 93 per cent.
