London’s calling – Co-op’s Food Property team expands presence in the capital

February 12, 2016

The Co-op Food is strengthening its acquisitions presence in London as part of a continued focus on growing its store estate there. The now four-strong team will build on the momentum gained over the last couple of years, with a view to opening more new shops in Greater London than ever before.

Rob Tindale, who previously covered north London, will now concentrate solely on central London. The other posts have also been filled by internal candidates – Craig Smith will look after south London, Martyn Clarke will cover north and east London and Chris Barter will focus on west London.

“People in London tend to shop little and often, even more so than in other areas of the country, which obviously fits with the direction our business is going in,” comments Craig Smith. “There’s a lot to go after, so I’m excited about what the next few months will bring.”
“Strategically, London is a really important area for us,” comments Rob Bignold, Head of Acquisitions and New Store Development.” We made some fantastic gains in 2015, opening and contracting on close to 60 stores in London and the South East. The new team will help us build on this success, setting us up for significant growth over the next year and beyond.”
The Co-op is actively seeking freehold or leasehold sites of up to 10,000 square foot gross and businesses with net sales areas of over 1,500 square foot. In return, landlords, developers and agents can expect competitive rent and terms and a quick response.
