Piper joins The Co-operative’s Property team

December 05, 2012

The Co-operative Group has strengthened its Trading Property team with the appointment of Nicola Piper as Extensions and Development Manager.

Nicola, from Bramhall, Manchester, who has worked at The Co-operative for 18 months, most recently as a project manager within the Banking Group, will work on food store extensions and new developments across the country.

Before joining The Co-operative, Nicola worked for property and infrastructure consultancy, Sweett Group, where she worked on major developments, including Liverpool One for Grosvenor Developments, as well as the redevelopment of Blackpool Tower and Winter Gardens. Nicola Piper

Nicola started her career as a graduate trainee at Marks and Spencer, before becoming a store manager and then moving into store development.

Martin Vickerman, National Business Development Manager for The Co-operative Food, said: “Nicola has extensive experience of working on major developments and we are delighted she has joined the property team to help us grow the food business.

“Her appointment demonstrates our commitment to continue our ongoing expansion plans through store acquisitions, extensions and new developments.”

The Co-operative has completed several major extension projects this year, including a scheme to double the size of its Alsager store in Cheshire, which was part of a wider, £8 million investment from the business in the town, as well as the £3m transformation of its Sandwich store in Kent and a £2m scheme in Wherrytown, Cornwall, which re-launched last week.

It has also announced plans to expand its food store in Machynlleth next year, from 8,000sq ft to 13,000sq ft, which will include creating additional car parking spaces and introducing a new customer entrance.

The Co-operative is investing in its existing estate, focusing on extensions and new developments, and is also actively acquiring stores, either leasehold or freehold, between 2,000sq ft and 4,000sq ft in high street and local community locations across the UK.
