Sunday is Manchester Day

Manchester Day is an annual festival that celebrates all things Mancunian. The theme for this year’s event is Eureka!, a nod to the city’s reputation as a centre of industry and scientific discovery.

Greater Manchester is also the birthplace of co-operation. Over 170 years ago, the Rochdale Pioneers decided business could, and should, be done in a fairer way. And so the co-operative movement, and eventually the Co-op, was born.

What about today?
We plan to open around 100 stores across the UK this year, around 20 of which will be in the North West. Some of our upcoming openings include Chapel Street in Salford, Mossley Hill in Liverpool, Washway Road in Sale and Northwich in Cheshire. All of the new stores will feature our new look and by the end of the year we will have invested millions of pounds in the region and created over 300 new jobs for local people.

Our commitment to goes beyond just opening new shops, we’re also stocking products from local suppliers in our stores in Lancashire and Greater Manchester. That means that our customers can buy products they know and love and our producers get the chance to bring their food to a wider audience.

We’re looking for new sites
We want to open more shops in the North West and are always on the lookout for great new store sites. If you have a freehold or leasehold site for a store of up to 10,000 sq ft gross, or an existing business with a net sales area of over 1,500 sq ft, get in touch with Chris Moss, our Acquisitions Manager for the North West, on chris.moss@co-operative.coop or  07801 640 267. More information about our requirements can be found on our website.
