Today is Yorkshire Day

From soaring peaks and rugged moors, to coastal towns and bustling cities, Yorkshire has got it all. It was named European Destination of the Year at the World Travel Awards in 2013 and has its own day, which falls on 1 August every year.

New shops
We’ll have opened nine new shops in Yorkshire by the end of the year, in places like York, Keighley, Harrogate and Leeds. This is part of a wider commitment to open 100 stores in 2016 and more than 100 next year, more than any other food retailer.

Local products for local people
Last year we announced a local supplier initiative that would see us stock 130 products from 50 local suppliers in our stores in Yorkshire. These include everything from bread and eggs, to chutney and pies.

Simon Williams, North Yorkshire Chairman for the Federation of Small Businesses, said: "Keep trade local is something we’ve been promoting for a long time. This investment by the Co-op in its small suppliers shows a true understanding and commitment to these values.”
