The Co-op was founded on the belief that business should be done in a fairer and more compassionate way. This community focus is something we still live by today
Membership that makes a difference
The Co-op is owned by 5 million members across the UK, not investors of shareholders. And we’re proud to give back to the people we serve. Members now receive 5% back on all Co-op products and services, with a further 1% directly benefiting local causes chosen by them.
Supporting UK farmers
We work closely with over 2,000 UK farmers, 400 of which are part of Co-op FarmingbGroups. Since the programme started in 2013, the groups have made a number of important environmental and community commitments, as well as making life better for nearly 95 million animals.
As a local retailer we think it’s important to be active in the communities we serve. In 2015, almost 9,000 colleagues took part in community activities in work time, raising £6 million for good causes. And it’s not just about fundraising, it’s about campaigning on issues that matter. We’re currently working with our charity partner, the British Red Cross, to raise awareness of loneliness and social isolation in the UK.
