We’re working with some great organisations who share our goal of bringing sustainability to life for young people. Love Food Hate Waste will be awarding the ‘Best in Class’ prize for Waste in our annual What’s YOUR Green Schools Revolution? competition. Read on to learn more about food waste and then enter our competition to tell us how your school has reduced waste.
Food waste is also a major issue. We throw away 7 million tonnes of food and drink from our homes every year, the majority of which could have been eaten. It's costing us £12.5bn a year and is bad for the environment too. Can your class come up with imaginative jacket potato fillings from leftovers in their fridge at home?
Visit www.lovefoodhatewaste.com for lots of ideas to help you to reduce food waste at home. For teachers looking for more resources to engage students in Love Food Hate Waste and food waste prevention there are lots of free materials and resources available at www.lovefoodhatewaste.com/partners (you just need to register which is free, quick and easy).
What other waste apart from food can be cut down around school? Have you had a focus on recycling this year, or cutting down the amount of water or energy wasted? Tell us when you enter ‘What’s YOUR Green Schools Revolution?’ and you could win a share of our £18,000 prize fund. Deadline for entries is Friday 4th April.
