We are the CYMB - the Co-op Young Members' Board - and we're playing a major role in supporting our AGM and elections this year. Who are we? We are 14 young members who provide our Co-op with a greater insight into the thoughts, views, issues and aspirations of people who are 16 to 25 years old.
We want to get many young people more involved in our Co-op’s democracy. That involves removing the barriers that get in the way, reaching out to young members where they are in a way that appeals to them, and supporting new members who will be coming to this year’s AGM.
In the run up to the AGM, be sure to watch out for our posts on Twitter @CYMB. We’ve got some great stuff in the pipeline to explain why you should vote, what the Co-op’s democracy is all about and information which breaks down some of the jargon surrounding the AGM and elections.
We’ll have our own space at the AGM, so come and find us. Our Chair, Lois McClure, will be speaking from the platform on all of the work we have done over the past year. It doesn’t end there – we will also be reporting live from the AGM via Periscope, Facebook and Twitter (find us @CYMB).
In the meantime, we’ve made some films and infographics to communicate some of the more complicated stuff around the AGM – you’ll find them below. Enjoy!
What is the Co-op?
This is the first in a series of four videos that we’ve put together to talk about our Co-op – done by young people, for young people. We’ll be releasing three others in the weeks running up to the AGM, covering ‘Why the Co-op is great for young people’, ‘What is an AGM?’ and ‘What is a motion?’.
Why you should vote.
We believe that the voices of young people should be heard throughout our Co-op. That’s why we want to encourage all eligible young members to vote in our AGM and elections.
