Thinking of standing for election?
Elections and You!
As a member of The Co-operative you have the chance to elect other Members to represent your voice in our Co-operative. But have you ever thought about throwing your hat in the election ring?
Elections to our Member Council will begin on the 1st December 2015 - keep looking here on the membership site for more information about how to stand. If you have the drive, commitment and passion that would make you a great Council Member, providing you meet some basic eligibility criteria, your name could be on the ballot.
If you’re not sure whether becoming a Council Member might be for you, have a look at what two of our elected members think about it:
I feel honoured to have been given this opportunity by our members to represent them on the newly formed Council. As an employee of the Group I truly feel that it is our business - one where we can have our input into its future.
Meeting up with 100 like-minded individuals with the same goal of being guardians of our co-operative Values and Principles is invigorating, and being able to question the Board enables us to hold them to account.
There is a lot of work ahead for the Council and together we will achieve. I look forward to inputting on Council matters during our journey ahead.
Neil Williams, Elected Member from Eastleigh, Hampshire
“It really is our business. Through the Member Council I can truly say I’ve had my say in how we run our businesses. I’ve provided input into our strategies and helped Senior Managers to make decisions affecting the communities we serve. I’ve directly questioned Executives about concerns that local Members I represent have raised, and had these answered.
The Council continues to ensure we uphold our Co-operative Values and Principles in everything we do, and I can clearly see how we have a direct and tangible benefit to the overall Society. I feel proud to be part of a Society that continues to listens to its Members and allows us to really have our say.”
Janson Woodall, Elected Member from Talke, West Midlands
