Case study: Organising a festival for the local community
- Bill Sadler, Chair of Grantown 250 and Co-op member
- Time commitment – full-time
Retired teacher Bill Sadler has spent 18 months planning and co-ordinating Grantown’s 250th anniversary festival, a week-long event for young and old packed with an array of events and entertainment.
If an event in the UK wasn’t enough, Bill’s work has gone global and he’s helping to organise a sister festival in Manitoba, Canada where a historical figure from Grantown settled in the 18th century.
“The festival really has caught the imagination and the whole town has got behind it. It’s hard work but we have so much fun. I hope everyone will be proud of what we have achieved together – it’s a fantastic example of community action, which I hope we can continue to build on in the future.”
Bill’s top tips
- Involve the whole community, make them feel part of it
- Plan, plan, plan
- Do something you enjoy
