Introducing our Poppy Hearse
We’re proud to introduce our unique Poppy Hearse which joined our other alternative vehicles this week. The hearse is beautifully decorated with 100 red poppies and has been designed to mark the centenary of the end of World War 1.
New hearse to mark the centenary of the end of WW1
The Poppy Hearse joins some of our other special hearses that can be requested for funerals up and down the country, such as our Rainbow and Land Rover Hearse, and it has already had several bookings in the last few days from word of mouth alone.
The idea for the Poppy Hearse came from Ian Mason, our Service Excellence Manager for the South & East. This is what he had to say:
"The idea for the ‘Remembrance Hearse’ is something that evolved from the incredible reaction and demand from our ‘Rainbow Hearse’ which we launched at Brighton Pride in 2017. The chance to do something right by the community we represent there but also the opportunity for non LGBT+ clients to simply have the choice for something different!
Myself and Jo-Anna Morris from Transport worked frantically last year to have the correct image drawn up for the Remembrance Hearse, however, we didn’t feel that any of the images that we were seeing were quite right. So, at the 11th hour, we decided that we would hold fire on the release in 2017 with the aim to work through the winter and produce something spectacular for 2018 – the centenary year which marks the end of WWI.
The design that we are launching this year, is simple, elegant and has exactly 100 poppies shown (50 each side, representative of 100 years). As you can see from the image they are growing along the base of the hearse in a very simple design. As with the Rainbow hearse, although housed in the South of the country, we felt that it was important for this to be available for all of our families all over the country that simply love poppies. We have already had lots of enquiries of availability and it is booked for funerals next week."
As people become more aware of their options in personalising funerals, the requests we’ve seen for alternative hearses has risen. In the last 3 years alone requests have increased by a fifth (21%).
While we have several specialised hearses available, sometimes a family has a really specific idea of what they want, and we’re always more than happy to help where we can! From Canal Boats to Milk Floats, anything that can be adapted and used to safely transport a loved one to their funeral can be used.
So whether it’s our Poppy Hearse, or something different entirely, speak to your local Co-op Funeral Director who will do everything they can to make it happen.
