How the black box works

The black box works like a sat nav or GPS but records the way you drive. It’s a small and compact box, about the size of a small mobile phone.

The black box is a self-install solar power device which fits to your windscreen and can be fitted to all cars.

What does the black box record?

The black box collects driving data to measure how safe your driving is. These safe driving parameters are:

  • speed
  • time of day
  • eco driving including cornering, braking and acceleration
  • duration.

The black box also tracks and monitors your declared mileage. If you exceed your declared mileage a top up will be required.

What do you use the data for?

Your data will be used to work out your safe driving score.

Your score will be reviewed at renewal and is one of many factors which may increase or decrease your renewal price.

Can I see how well I'm doing?

You can see your scores on your smartphone app. You’ll also find tips to help you improve your driving and your score.
