Try our comforting apple pie recipe for dessert and don't forget to finish it off with a sprinkling of our Fairtrade sugar.
Co-op first sold Fairtrade sugar in 2004. Now all the Co-op own brand sugar we sell in bags is Fairtrade.
We converted our entire own brand range to Fairtrade in 2008. In 2016, we made a commitment that all the bagged sugar we sold would be Fairtrade certified to support smallholder associations in Belize. This has been achieved in collaboration with Tate & Lyle Sugars.
Supporting sugar producers in Belize
Fairtrade premium from our sugar has helped workers and farmers in Belize improve their social, economic and environmental conditions.
Emmanuel Hall, from the Belize Sugar Cane Farmers Association: “Fairtrade has had a big impact on the sugar industry. Before, farmers struggled on their own, and the area was in poverty. Now, we support the farmers, children have parks to play in and community centres have been renovated.”
