Co-op Chilean Merlot
It was only in 1993 that Chilean winemakers were alerted to the fact that some of their 'Merlot' was actually Carmenere - a grape which ripened at a different rate. The Chileans immediately set about separating the two grapes and, not surprisingly, standards soared. Chilean Merlot is now the benchmark at this sort of price. Nowhere else do you get this much fruit - damson, blueberry, plum -for such a modest outlay
