This week: Data Sonification - how to make a song using data, with Jamie Whyte, Open Data Manchester.
In this session, Jamie will show how to build up a song using data! We'll cover: Processing Covid-19 data to get it in right shape using R Using the audio package in R to turn data into sound Using R to make an animated line chart Using GarageBand to turn our sounds into a song Jamie will go through the steps to get the data in the right shape and sonified, then we can put our backing tracks in together. The session will probably use Manchester data. What you'll need If you want follow along you'll need to install R and have access to a music programme. We'll use GarageBand in this session.
About Pick N Mix Pick N Mix is a tasty selection of free weekly online workshops run by the ODM community. Each week you’ll be introduced to a tool, resource or skill in a fun, friendly and informative way. View sessions from Season 1.
Sessions will be carried out over Zoom, and will be interactive. Whilst the format may vary from week to week, you can expect a mixture of presentation and practical exercises that you can either do during the session supported by the tutor, or in your own time.
Pick N Mix is a free to participate community delight, with all sessions recorded and accompanying materials made openly available. As each session has a different flavour, it’s worth checking out in advance any skill/knowledge requirements or if it’s recommended to install software in advance.
