Read the Green Cross Code, which is written below, and try your best to remember it. At the end of the quiz, your grown-up will test you. For every correct answer, you will score 10 points!

Answer: Brake recommends that children under 10 should only ride on safe cycle paths away from traffic, so the first three would be safe the last would not.

4. Stop! You’ve reached the traffic lights!

a) What do you do when you see a green Man lit up? (10 points)

b) What do you do when you see a red man lit up? (10 points)

c) Why do traffic lights make a beeping sound when it’s time to cross? (10 points)

Answer: a) A ‘red man’ tells you it is not safe to cross, b) a ‘green man’ means it is safe to cross but you should keep checking for traffic too. c) Some crossings also make a ‘beeping’ sound to tell blind and partially sighted people when it is safe to cross. There is also a small, rotating button underneath the push button. This spins when the ‘green man’ shows.

5. This year, during Road Safety Week, a charity called Brake have a special slogan to teach people why the speed of traffic matters for safety. Which one of them is correct (score 10 points if you get this one right).

b) May the force be with you

c) Drive with your windscreen wipers on

Answer: d) None of these are correct – there are no excuses for speeding.
