To apply to be a local cause you must be part of a not for profit group and run a project that will benefit your local community.

Groups that can apply

  • UK registered charities
  • Scout, Guide or Woodcraft Folk groups
  • Social enterprises
  • Church or chapels that are 'excepted' charities
  • Co-operative societies
  • Credit unions
  • Community benefit societies
  • Community Interest Companies (CIC)
  • Any other groups that can prove they're not run for private profit

Projects we cannot fund

We cannot fund projects that:

  • support individuals or overseas projects
  • promote any political activities or religious beliefs – but we will consider projects led by religious groups that are for the benefit of the whole community
  • fund salaries and overheads that are not directly related to the project
  • give our funding to other people or groups (onward grant making)
  • Local Authorities are responsible for
  • could, in our opinion, harm the reputation of Co-op
