  • 400g can Co-op chick peas
  • 400g bag Co-op frozen British
  • garden peas
  • Zest and juice of 1 lemon
  • 2 large garlic cloves, chopped
  • 2 tbsp Co-op olive oil, plus extra
  • to drizzle
  • 1 ½ tsp ground cumin

For the chilli dippers

  • 4 Co-op white pitta breads
  • 1 tbsp Co-op olive oil
  • ½ tsp chilli powder


  1. Drain the chick peas into a bowl, reserving the liquid from the can
  2. Cook the garden peas according to the pack instructions, then drain
  3. Put the chick peas, lemon zest and juice, garlic, olive oil, cumin and 5 tbsp of the chick pea water into a food processor and blitz almost to a purée
  4. Add the garden peas and blitz again to mix
  5. Season to taste
  6. Preheat the oven to 200°C/fan 180°C/gas 6
  7. Cut the pitta breads into shards, arrange on a baking tray, then drizzle with the oil and sprinkle with the chilli powder
  8. Bake for 10 mins, until golden
  9. Put the houmous in a bowl, drizzle with the extra oil and season with freshly ground black pepper
  10. Serve with the chilli dippers on the side
