Ingredients

  • 6 tbsp Co-op olive oil
  • 1 large onion, finely chopped
  • 1 garlic clove, finely chopped
  • 5 tbsp Co-op tomato ketchup
  • Pinch of ground cinnamon
  • Generous splash of hot sauce (optional)
  • 60g sour cream and chive pretzels
  • 4 tbsp Co-op plain flour
  • 1 Co-op British free range egg, beaten
  • 2 Co-op British chicken breasts, cut into small strips

Method

  1. To make the sauce, heat 1 tbsp of the olive oil in a nonstick frying pan over a medium heat
  2. Gently fry the onion and garlic for 12-15 mins, stirring occasionally, until the onion is soft and lightly caramelised
  3. Add the ketchup, cinnamon and hot sauce (if using), along with 80ml water
  4. Bring to a simmer and cook for 10 mins, until reduced slightly
  5. Leave to one side
  6. Meanwhile, pulse the pretzels in a food processor until you have a coarse crumb, then tip into a shallow bowl
  7. Put the flour in a shallow bowl and the beaten egg in another
  8. Dip the chicken strips first in the flour, then the egg, then the pretzel crumbs
  9. Heat the remaining oil in a large nonstick frying pan over a medium heat
  10. Fry the chicken for 5-6 mins turning occasionally, until golden and cooked through
  11. Pile the chicken strips into paper cones, and spoon over some hot dog cart sauce
  12. Serve immediately, with the rest of the sauce on the side for dipping
