Ingredients
- 6 tbsp Co-op olive oil
- 1 large onion, finely chopped
- 1 garlic clove, finely chopped
- 5 tbsp Co-op tomato ketchup
- Pinch of ground cinnamon
- Generous splash of hot sauce (optional)
- 60g sour cream and chive pretzels
- 4 tbsp Co-op plain flour
- 1 Co-op British free range egg, beaten
- 2 Co-op British chicken breasts, cut into small strips
Method
- To make the sauce, heat 1 tbsp of the olive oil in a nonstick frying pan over a medium heat
- Gently fry the onion and garlic for 12-15 mins, stirring occasionally, until the onion is soft and lightly caramelised
- Add the ketchup, cinnamon and hot sauce (if using), along with 80ml water
- Bring to a simmer and cook for 10 mins, until reduced slightly
- Leave to one side
- Meanwhile, pulse the pretzels in a food processor until you have a coarse crumb, then tip into a shallow bowl
- Put the flour in a shallow bowl and the beaten egg in another
- Dip the chicken strips first in the flour, then the egg, then the pretzel crumbs
- Heat the remaining oil in a large nonstick frying pan over a medium heat
- Fry the chicken for 5-6 mins turning occasionally, until golden and cooked through
- Pile the chicken strips into paper cones, and spoon over some hot dog cart sauce
- Serve immediately, with the rest of the sauce on the side for dipping
