Ingredients
- 1.25kg red apples
- 125g Co-op Fairtrade light brown soft sugar
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- Pinch of nutmeg
- 100ml Co-op Irresistible Tillington Hills British cider
- Co-op crumpets, to serve (optional)
Method
- Peel, core and chop the apples
- Put them in a slow cooker with the sugar, spices and cider, then stir to combine
- Cook, covered, on low for 6 hours, stirring halfway
- Purée with a stick blender, then cook on medium, uncovered, for 2 hours, until the mixture has thickened to a paste
- Transfer to sterilised jars and leave to cool — it will keep in the fridge for up to 2 weeks
- Try on crumpets or toast
