Ingredients

  • 1.25kg red apples
  • 125g Co-op Fairtrade light brown soft sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • Pinch of nutmeg
  • 100ml Co-op Irresistible Tillington Hills British cider
  • Co-op crumpets, to serve (optional)

Method

  1. Peel, core and chop the apples
  2. Put them in a slow cooker with the sugar, spices and cider, then stir to combine
  3. Cook, covered, on low for 6 hours, stirring halfway
  4. Purée with a stick blender, then cook on medium, uncovered, for 2 hours, until the mixture has thickened to a paste
  5. Transfer to sterilised jars and leave to cool — it will keep in the fridge for up to 2 weeks
  6. Try on crumpets or toast
