These ham and cheese croutons are a surefire way to liven up just about any salad

  • 6 slices Co-op farmhouse loaf
  • 30g Co-op unsalted butter, softened
  • 125g Co-op Irresistible Comté, grated
  • 100g Co-op wafer thin ham
  • 2 tbsp Co-op olive oil
  • 1 tbsp white wine vinegar
  • 1 tsp Dijon mustard
  • 175g Co-op mixed leaf salad


  1. Lightly toast the bread, then butter each side
  2. Top 3 slices with a third of the cheese, all the ham, then another third of the cheese
  3. Grill for 2-3 mins, until the cheese has melted
  4. Remove from the grill and top with the other slice of the bread, buttered-side up
  5. Sprinkle over the rest of the cheese and grill for another 2-3 mins, until golden and bubbling
  6. Leave to cool slightly, before cutting each sandwich into crouton-sized squares
  7. Meanwhile, whisk together the oil, vinegar and mustard, then season
  8. Drizzle over the salad leaves and toss to combine
  9. Scatter the croutons over the salad and serve
