How to make more space in your kitchen

Kitchen utensils hanging up

Most of us would love a bit of extra space in our kitchens for food preparation and storage. Read our top 5 tips for making the most of the space you’ve got.

Be creative with shelves

You can store things both on top of and beneath shelves. Wine glasses can be placed in a rack beneath a shelf or cabinet and they will be protected.

You can also buy shelves with hooks on the bottom for mugs. Wire shelf risers can increase your vertical storage space too.

Make the most of cabinets

Hang your most-used utensils at the back of cabinet doors. The sides of cabinets meanwhile can hold heavy items like chopping boards, which can be difficult to store.

Take advantage of open wall space

You can store a lot of things on pegboards or add more shelves to open walls. Fold away tables are another good way to save space and mean you can still sit down together to eat meals.

Make the most of your ceiling

If you don’t have the cabinet space for pots and pans, consider hanging a rack from the ceiling. It will make them easier to access as well as saving space, but avoid anywhere you could bang your head!

Decant bulky items

It can be cheaper to buy larger quantities of items like rice and washing powder. You don’t need to store them all in the kitchen though, as you can decant them into smaller containers and keep the bigger ones somewhere else.
