Spruce up your home for spring and summer

Outdoor furniture and flowers with breakfast on a table

After months of cold and wet weather, spring is a great time to spruce up your home. The birds are chirping, the trees are blossoming and you've finally got the energy to get busy around the house.

To give you some inspiration ahead of the change in season, we've put together a list of tips to help keep things fresh for the warmer days.

Bring in some colour

Nothing says spring quite like bright and pastel colours. Try switching out your bed sheets or changing an area rug for maximum impact.

If you're looking for more subtle colour changes, why not add a few vibrant mugs, a new lampshade or a piece of wall art?

Freshen up with flowers

One of the easiest ways you can update or freshen up a room is with flowers and greenery. During spring, flowers like daffodils and tulips go wild so head down to your local supermarket and pick up a bunch.

If you can’t access fresh flowers, you can also incorporate fake florals. These will add the same style to your home and better still, they'll last all season long!

Swap out pillows and throws

It’s time to swap out the chunky knitted throws and fluffy cushions for light linens and gingham prints – think of it like rotating your winter and summer wardrobe.

Layering soft linen throws and vibrant cushions can be an eye-catching way to update your living space. In your bedroom, try combining pastel colours with florals and crisp whites.

Clear out the clutter

It’s the season for spring cleaning! A full clear-out can seem a little daunting, so break it down one room (or cupboard) at a time.

To complete your de-clutter, the best way to start is with a list. Make sure you create a checklist of exactly what you would like to get done to keep you on track. Whenever you have some spare time, tick one item of here and there. Before you know it, you’ll be nearing the end!

Remember to utilise the space throughout your home, whether that's under the bed, on top of the wardrobe or on shelves. Try to store things without taking up floor space in your home. Storage baskets are another great way to organise your belongings and reduce clutter.

Give it a lick of paint

As the days get drier, now might be the time to give your home a fresh coat of paint. This could be touching up your current walls, covering any scuffs or giving everywhere a complete revamp.

If you go for a big update, why not brighten the place up with a new colour? Greens, pinks and baby blues are just some of the most popular shades to incorporate into your home at the moment. With green being the colour of rejuvenation, it’s a great option to freshen up your space for a new season.

If painting the walls is too much of a job, you could always re-paint a piece of furniture. Why not transform a chest of drawers or the side table in your living room?
