Cancelling your over 50 life insurance policy

Our over 50 life insurance is arranged by Legal & General (L&G).

You can cancel your over 50 life insurance policy at any time. But if you would like to discuss ways to manage or change your cover, you can call L&G. Please note that changes to your policy can result in less cover.

Over 50 life insurance gives your loved ones a small cash sum that can be used as a gift or towards funeral expenses. Cancelling your policy means a claim cannot be made.

How to cancel

From the date you receive your welcome letter, you will have 30 days to contact L&G if you decide not to continue with the policy.

If you cancel within this period, L&G will refund any payments you have already made. After 30 days, you will not get a refund.

The policyholder will need to give L&G authority to cancel the policy. When doing so, you will need to provide:

  • your policy number
  • your name and address
  • your date of birth

If you took out a policy after 11 December 2023 and it has been active for less than 6 months, then your £100 gift offer will not be eligible.

Deceased policyholder

If the policyholder has died, L&G’s advisers can talk you through the options available.

Or you can write to L&G. Your letter should include the policy number and the name and contact details of the person to receive any refund due.

Co-op Members

For Co-op Members, cancelling your policy does not mean losing your Co-op Membership. You will stay a Co-op Member unless you decide to cancel your Membership.

Contact details to cancel your policy

If you still want to cancel, you can call L&G.
