When someone dies, our team is available to take your call and talk you through everything — from the practical steps like registering the death to arranging for your loved one to be brought into our care. We can transfer the person who has died to our chapel of rest on Etterby Street, where they will be looked after with the utmost respect while you take the time you need to make arrangements. You do not need to have any answers ready when you first contact us; we will help you find your way through each step at your own pace.
Yes, our Etterby Street funeral home serves families across a wide area, including Dumfries as well as Carlisle and North Carlisle. Distance is no barrier to the care we provide, and our team will come to you wherever you are. We are here to support your family from the very first call, no matter where you are based.
There is no need to worry about parking when you visit us — you can park directly on Etterby Street for up to two hours, or on Scotland Road nearby at no charge, and there is also a parking area close by where you can stay for up to three hours. Our funeral home is fully wheelchair accessible, with a ground floor arrangement room and an accessible toilet, so every member of your family can be with you when you come to make arrangements. Our arrangement room comfortably accommodates up to five adults, giving your family the space and privacy you need during what is a very difficult time.
We have been arranging funerals on Etterby Street since 1960, and over the decades our team has supported families with all kinds of ceremonies — from traditional religious services at venues such as St Bede's to entirely secular celebrations of life. Whatever your family's beliefs or traditions, we will listen carefully and build a funeral that feels true to the person who has died. There is no single right way to say goodbye, and we are here to help you find yours.
We work with four crematoriums depending on your family's preferences and location: Carlisle, Eden Valley, Roucan Loch, and Distington Hall. On the day, our team will guide the funeral cortege to whichever crematorium you have chosen, and we will be with you throughout the service to ensure everything runs as your family wishes. Each of these crematoriums has its own character and surroundings, and we are happy to talk you through what to expect at any of them when you come to see us on Etterby Street.
