Yes, our team at Crook on Hope Street regularly supports families across Wolsingham and the wider Wear Valley, so distance is no obstacle to us caring for your loved one. We cover a broad area including Stanhope, Tow Law and Mountset, and we will come to you wherever you are. Please do not hesitate to call us at any time.
Absolutely — non-religious and civil ceremonies are something our team arranges regularly for families across Crook and the surrounding communities in Wear Valley. A celebrant-led service can be held at a venue of your choosing, and we will help you find the right person to lead it and the right words to reflect who your loved one truly was. There is no single template, and we are here to make the service as personal as it needs to be.
Our funeral home on Hope Street in Crook is fully accessible at ground level, with a wheelchair-accessible arrangement room and an accessible toilet, so every family member can be present and comfortable during arrangements. There is a paid car park nearby, which families making their way in from across Wear Valley or from further afield in Durham should find straightforward enough to use. If you have any concerns about access before your visit, please do ring us and we will do our best to help.
When someone has died, our team is available around the clock — day or night — so you can call us on Hope Street at any hour and we will talk you through what needs to happen. If your loved one has died at home in Crook or somewhere nearby such as Tow Law or Stanhope, we will arrange for them to be brought into our care with as much gentleness and dignity as possible. From there, we will handle the paperwork and guide you at your own pace through the next steps, so you can focus on your family.
A cremation service follows a similar shape to any funeral — your family gathers to mark the life of the person who died, whether through readings, music, or simply a few quiet moments together. Our team will guide you through the timing well in advance so nothing comes as a surprise, from the journey from Crook to the crematorium through to what happens afterwards with the ashes. We can help you think through every detail, including whether you would like a committal service or a separate memorial gathering closer to home.
