H & W Harkess, Gilmerton
12 Drum Street, Gilmerton, EH17 8QH
Our funeral home in Gilmerton has been serving the local community since 1997. During that time, we've come to know and love our local area well. We cover areas throughout Gilmerton, including Liberton, Danderhall Moredun and Inch. We're here to give you a friendly, reliable and sensitively planned funeral service at your time of need.
Our team are good listeners, and that's the first thing we will do when we talk with you. That way we can help you arrange the funeral that feels right. We have longstanding relationships with local crematoriums and churches like St Catherine's, St Gregory's and Mortonhall, Seafield, Warriston and East Lothian crematoriums. We also know many of the local religious leaders and some wonderful funeral celebrants.
Whether you prefer a chat over the phone or in person at our Drum Street funeral home, we're here to listen, guide you through your options, and support you at every step.

Yes, our team at H&W Harkess on Drum Street is very much here for families in Danderhall, and we also serve the surrounding communities of Liberton, Moredun, Inch, and Gilmerton. Wherever you are in these areas, we will come to you and guide your family through every step at whatever pace feels right for you.
You can call us at any time, day or night, and our team will answer, because we know that when someone dies, the hours that follow can feel overwhelming and you should never have to wait until morning. Once you contact us, we can arrange to bring the person who died into our care at H&W Harkess on Drum Street, giving your family time and space to breathe before any other decisions are made. We will also walk you through the paperwork and registration process step by step, so nothing feels confusing or rushed.
We are experienced in arranging funerals across a range of faiths and traditions, and we work closely with local churches including St Catherine's, St Gregory's, Tron Kirk, and Liberton Kirk to help facilitate meaningful religious services. Equally, if your family would prefer a completely non-religious or humanist celebration of life, we can help you shape something personal and fitting. Whatever matters most to the person who died, our team will listen carefully and make sure their wishes, and yours, are at the heart of the arrangements.
We work regularly with Mortonhall Crematorium, Seafield Crematorium, Warriston Crematorium, and East Lothian Crematorium, so your family has a genuine choice depending on your wishes and circumstances. On the day itself, our team will be with you from the moment the cortège leaves, coordinating everything so that you can focus entirely on being together and honouring the person who died. We take care of all the timing and liaison with the crematorium staff, ensuring the service runs smoothly and with the dignity your loved one deserves.
Yes, we have a chapel of rest here at H&W Harkess on Drum Street in Gilmerton, where families are welcome to spend quiet, private time with the person who died before the funeral. Our funeral home is fully wheelchair accessible, so everyone in your family is able to visit without difficulty. Please do be aware that there is no on-site car park, but street parking is available nearby, and our team is always happy to advise on the best options when you are planning your visit.
