Abbey Funeralcare, Leigh
94 Chapel Street, Leigh, WN7 2DB
We're a funeral home in the heart of Leigh, serving the communities of Tyldesley, Astley, Golborne and Hindley since 2014. Our clients describe us as "patient, kind, and compassionate". These are words we live by every day as we strive to give everyone who comes to us the best experience possible when arranging a funeral.
We will be led by you in making the funeral arrangements. We will listen as you tell us about who they were and what feels right for them. Then we will use our established relationships with local places of worship and crematoriums in the area, like St Joseph's Church and Leigh Parish Church to create the funeral that feels right.
If you need us, call or visit us in person on Chapel Street. We'll be here to welcome you from the first conversation and take the time to understand your unique needs and support you through every step.

When someone dies, please do not feel you have to have everything worked out before you call us — our team at Abbey in Leigh is here to help from the very first moment, day or night. One of the most immediate things we can arrange is for your loved one to be brought into our care, which many families find brings a sense of calm and relief. From there, we will help you understand the paperwork involved and take things at whatever pace feels right for your family.
We know that practical worries should be the last thing on your mind when you visit us, so we want to reassure you that parking is straightforward. You can leave your car for free on Turner Street or in the car park at St Joseph's Church on Mather Lane, both of which are close to our funeral home. Our building is fully wheelchair accessible with a ground-floor arrangement room and an accessible toilet, so please do let us know if there is anything we can do to make your visit more comfortable.
On the day of a cremation, we will bring your loved one's coffin to the chosen venue — such as Leigh Parish Church for a service beforehand — before travelling in a cortège to the crematorium. The service itself usually lasts around 20 to 30 minutes and can include music, readings, and personal tributes that reflect who your loved one was. Our team will stay with your family throughout the day so you never have to manage the logistics alone.
We regularly work with churches across the area, including St Joseph's Church and Leigh Parish Church, which are both well-known to our team on Chapel Street. Whether your family follows a particular faith tradition or you simply feel a church setting would be meaningful, we can liaise directly with the minister or officiant on your behalf. We are also able to arrange entirely non-religious ceremonies if that better reflects your loved one's wishes.
Yes, our team at Abbey on Chapel Street serves families across Golborne, Tyldesley, Astley, Hindley, and the surrounding areas including Higher Fold and Howe Bridge. Wherever you are in the local area, we can come to you and guide your family through every step of the arrangements. You are always welcome to visit us at our Leigh funeral home to talk things through in person.
