A funeral plan means your family won’t have to worry about arranging and paying for your funeral. Our experienced funeral arrangers will help them with everything.
Local expertise
We have more than 800 funeral homes in the heart of communities across Great Britain, so you’ll have peace of mind we can plan and carry out your funeral.
Your money is safe
You can be confident that your money is safe. Your money is protected and your funeral will be provided when the time comes.
We have history
Co-op Funeralcare have been arranging funerals for more than 100 years. We have local roots, expertise, experience.
A pre-paid funeral plan is an easy way to arrange and pay for your funeral in advance. It means whoever arranges your funeral knows everything is taken care of, giving you extra peace-of-mind. You can also choose how you want to be remembered.
If you want to buy a plan for someone else, you will need appropriate authority to act on their behalf, for example power of attorney. You cannot buy a plan for someone else online, you will need to call us on 0808 303 2076 or visit a funeral home.
A funeral plan might not be right if you think you need to arrange a funeral for someone soon. Or if you’re terminally ill and want to make plans for your own funeral.
Our funeral arrangers can help you record your wishes and make plans without buying a funeral plan if you need to arrange a funeral within the next 3 months.
How our funeral plans work
1
Choose and buy the right funeral plan for you.
2
We send out your pack that includes a plan summary, two 'care cards', a funeral wishes form and our terms and conditions.
3
If you choose a 'nominated person' they will also receive a copy of your plan.
4
You can fill in the funeral wishes form, return it to us and we will keep it safe.
5
Give a 'care card', that has your name and plan number on, to whoever is most likely to arrange your funeral.
6
When you die, they contact Co-op and we help them arrange everything.
Capped and guaranteed plans
Capped plans: Simple and Bronze
These plans include a capped amount towards third party fees.
If the fees rise above the capped amount we give, the balance must be paid by the person arranging the funeral.
The value of this capped contribution will rise in line with inflation each year.
Guaranteed plans: Direct Cremation, Silver and Gold
These plans guarantee that all third party fees will be paid, no matter how much they might rise in the future.
Third party fees
Third party fees are charges for services not provided by a funeral director but that must be paid before the funeral can take place.
We do not have control over these costs or how much they could rise in the future.
For cremation these fees include:
cremation fees at a local crematorium
officiant’s fee to perform the service
For burial these fees include:
burial or interment fee (single), gravedigger fee
officiant’s fees to conduct a service at a local cemetery chapel or church or at the graveside
None of our funeral plans include the cost of buying a burial plot.
What third party fees cost today
We cannot predict what third party fees will cost in the future. Our funeral cost calculator can help you understand what they cost today.
Ways to pay
You can pay for your funeral plan in 3 different ways:
one-off payment
spread cost over 6 or 12 months with no instalment charges
pay monthly over 2 to 25 years, or 2 to 5 years for a Direct Cremation plan - instalment charges apply
With a Co-op Funeralcare plan, you can be confident that your money is protected and your funeral will be provided when the time comes.
Co-op Members save up to £125 on their funeral plans
Co-op Members get exclusive member prices when they buy a funeral plan with us. They help us support local communities, too.
Members save:
£25 on a Direct Cremation Plan
£75 on a Simple Plan
£125 on Bronze, Silver and Gold funeral plans
Our Members also save money across Co-op food stores, legal services and insurance.
Having a pre-paid funeral plan is one way to let people know your wishes, including any personal touches you might want at your funeral. This could be your favourite music or hymns, or asking people to wear a certain colour.
When your funeral plan pack arrives, take some time to fill in the funeral wishes form and send it back to us. We share these wishes with the person arranging the funeral.
You might want to:
ask everyone to wear your favourite colour
choose a particular place of worship or venue for the service that’s important to you
pick the music that means something to you
tell us what you want be dressed in
have a hobby you want to feature at your funeral
You might not want any fuss at all, not even a service, if you choose a Direct Cremation plan. And if you don’t want to leave any wishes, that's okay, too.
Whatever you ask for, we’ll do our best to make it happen.

To make sure your money is safe and always protected, after deducting the administration fee, we invest the remaining amount required to pay for your funeral into an individual whole of life insurance policy with The Royal London Mutual Insurance Society Limited (“Royal London”).
In the unlikely event that our business fails, we would seek to make arrangements with another funeral plan provider to transfer your plan to make sure that your funeral can still be provided when you die on the same terms as the plan you have bought from us. However, if this is not possible, you (or your next of kin if you have died) will have a legal right to claim your monies back from Royal London direct. As such, by purchasing this funeral plan, you consent to your funeral plan being transferred to another funeral plan provider on the same terms in the event that our business fails.
If a transfer of your plan to another provider or return of your monies is not possible, you may be entitled to compensation under the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (“FSCS”). Further information about the FSCS compensation scheme arrangement is available at www.fscs.org.uk, by emailing enquiries@fscs.org.uk or by phoning the FSCS on 0800 678 1100 or 0207 741 4100.
If you choose to pay in full or you are paying by monthly payments over 6 or 12 months and cancel within 30 days of purchasing your plan, we’ll provide a full refund of all payments made (including any deposit). If you cancel after 30 days, we’ll refund the payments you’ve made (including any deposit) but deduct our £125 cancellation fee.
If you choose to pay by monthly instalments and you cancel within 12 months of purchasing your plan, we’ll provide a full refund of all payments made (including any deposit). If you cancel after 12 months, we’ll refund the payments you’ve made (including any deposit) but deduct our £125 cancellation fee.
If spreading the cost over 6 or 12 months, the person arranging your funeral will need to pay the balance so that our funeral director can deliver your plan, or the plan can be cancelled, and we will return your payments.
If paying in monthly instalments and you die after 12 months, as long as your payments are up to date, we won’t collect the outstanding balance on your plan and our funeral director can deliver your plan. However, if your payments are not up to date, the person arranging your funeral will need to pay those missing payments before the funeral can be provided.
If you die within 12 months of purchasing your plan (and your death wasn’t an accident) and your payments are up to date, the person arranging your funeral can choose to pay the balance so that we can provide your funeral; or they can choose not to pay the balance and we’ll cancel your plan and return your payments.
If you die within 12 months and your death was as a result of an accident, we will provide your funeral. However, if your payments are not up to date, the person arranging your funeral will need to pay those missing payments before the funeral can be provided.
