Safety essentials for your boot

Jump leads connecting to car bonnet

There’s an old saying that goes 'hope for the best, plan for the worst'.

So while we hope you enjoy mile after mile of uninterrupted driving fun, we’ve put together a list of things you should think about keeping in the boot, just in case.

Water

Keep a two-litre bottle of water handy and you’ll be able to top up your engine or windscreen washer if the levels get low.

Blanket

If you get stranded in the cold, you can stay toasty while help comes.

Hi-vis vests

These are mandatory in Europe, but not in the UK yet. Still, they’re not expensive and keep you visible so stock up.

Spare pair of boots

Now there’s no need to ruin your good shoes if you get stuck.

Shovel

If the forecast predicts snow, a plastic snow shovel can get you out of a chilly situation. They are also useful for muddy roads, paths and fields.

Jumper cables

For helping out a friend who has a flat battery or getting a jump start if you need a boost.

First aid kit

You never know when a plaster or a couple of paracetamol will come in handy.

Tyre pump

Electric ones are much easier to use but foot pumps are fine. It’s good to be able to keep your tyres at the right pressure.

Torch

A must if you want to be able to see in the dark.
