Cancelling your car insurance policy

You can cancel your car insurance policy at any time. But if you would like to discuss ways to manage or change your cover, you can call us or login to your account to contact our support team on live chat. Please note that changes to your policy can result in less cover.

Car insurance gives you financial protection in the event of an accident. Cancelling your policy means a claim cannot be made.

It is a legal requirement to have at least third-party insurance for your vehicle, unless it is kept off the road.

Cancellation charges

If you bought directly from us

If you cancel your policy in the first 14 days, there is no cancellation fee. After 14 days, the cancellation fee is £50.

Providing there have been no claims, we will refund you for the time on cover you have not used. Please refer to your policy wording for full cancellation details.

If you bought from a comparison website

If you cancel your policy in the first 14 days, the cancellation fee is £35. After 14 days, the cancellation fee is £50.

Providing there have been no claims, we will refund you for the time on cover you have not used. Please refer to your policy wording for full cancellation details.

What if I don't want to renew my car insurance?

We will typically send you a renewal invitation at least 3 weeks before your renewal date. The invitation will state whether your policy is set for automatic renewal.

You can also find this on your confirmation letter by logging into your account. If you haven’t signed up yet, you can register for an online account using the details on your policy.

Through your online account, you can view your policy documents and make changes to your car, personal or payment details. You can also add or remove a driver.

If you do not want to renew and your policy is not set to renew automatically, you do not need to do anything further.

If you pay monthly via direct debit, you will need to cancel your automatic renewal at least 4 days before your renewal date via our call centre, live chat or your online account.

Co-op Members

For Co-op Members, cancelling your policy does not mean losing your Co-op Membership. You will stay a Co-op Member unless you decide to cancel your Membership.

Ways to cancel your policy

If you bought car insurance directly from us, you can cancel via our call centre or live chat.

If you bought from a comparison website like Compare the Market, you can cancel via our call centre, live chat or the online portal.

When calling us, you will need to provide:

  • your policy number
  • your name and address
  • your date of birth

Only the policyholder can cancel the policy. If you want someone else to do it, you must contact us to give them permission.
