Older cat

What is meant by older or senior cat?

Cats are normally considered to be old or senior starting from 7 years old. Older cats will need their health to be monitored a bit more closely as they age.

Can you insure an older cat?

Yes. Older cats can still be insured, although policy terms and costs will differ from younger cats. For example, a 20% co-payment applies to new claims from a pet's 6th birthday onwards. Pre-existing conditions are not covered for any pets.

What age is too old for cat insurance?

There is no maximum age limit for Co-op Pet insurance. However, some benefits are no longer available once a pet reaches age 7. This includes death from illness cover and farewell cover.

Can I get insurance for a senior cat with health conditions?

You can insure a senior cat, but pre-existing conditions are not covered. Pre-existing conditions include any illness or injury known about before the policy starts.

Is pet insurance worth it for an older cat?

Older cats are more likely to need veterinary treatment as they age. Lifetime policies can provide ongoing cover for eligible conditions. They have annual veterinary fee limits confirmed at renewal.

Why do you need cat insurance?

Cat insurance is there to cover your cat if they have an accident or illness and will cover the costs of the treatment needed, minus any excesses.

Some of the key reasons to buy cat insurance are:

Cost of vet fees

Vet fees can cost thousands of pounds depending on the type of treatment and the size and breed of your pet.

Peace of mind

Knowing that you are covered for what can be a large unexpected bill.

Lifetime cover

If you choose a lifetime policy, any illnesses or accidents insured will continue to be covered for the whole of your pet's life.
