4 reasons to choose a Co-op plan
A range of payment options
You can pay for a funeral plan in full, spread the cost over 6 or 12 months with no additional fees, or choose monthly instalments over 2 to 25 years. Or 2 to 5 years for a Direct Cremation Plan.
If you choose to pay in instalments, you'll pay less in instalment charges overall with the Co-op than with some funeral providers. For example, a direct cremation plan for a 60 year old paid over 5 years is £943.28 cheaper with the Co-op than with Pure Cremation.
We are funeral directors
We have funeral homes across the country and we will carry out the funeral ourselves. Other plan providers might ask you to nominate an independent funeral director, but they can’t guarantee that they will be the ones carrying out the funeral.
An experienced and caring Co-op funeral director will conduct your funeral, guaranteeing all the care and high standards you would expect from us.
Excellent on Trustpilot and 5-star ratings
We’ve been awarded 5-star ratings from Defaqto for our Gold Plan, and Moneynet agree that our funeral plans are the best, as they named us Best Funeral Plan Provider for the 9th year running.
Plus there are thousands of reviews on Trustpilot, rating Co-op Funeralcare as ‘excellent’.
Members save on funeral plans and help support local communities
Co-op Members can save up to £300 when buying a funeral plan with us. They help us support local communities, too.
Whenever you spend money with the Co-op, you're helping us help local communities. Since 2016, our Members have raised more than £107M that has helped over 36,000 local causes across the UK.

Questions and answers
To make sure your money is safe and always protected, after deducting the administration and maintenance fees, we invest the remaining amount required to pay for your funeral into an individual whole of life insurance policy with The Royal London Mutual Insurance Society Limited (“Royal London”).
In the unlikely event that our business fails, we would seek to make arrangements with another funeral plan provider to transfer your plan to make sure that your funeral can still be provided when you die on the same terms as the plan you have bought from us. However, if this is not possible, you (or your next of kin if you have died) will have a legal right to claim your monies back from Royal London direct. As such, by purchasing this funeral plan, you consent to your funeral plan being transferred to another funeral plan provider on the same terms in the event that our business fails.
If a transfer of your plan to another provider or return of your monies is not possible, you may be entitled to compensation under the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (“FSCS”). Further information about the FSCS compensation scheme arrangement is available at www.fscs.org.uk, by emailing enquiries@fscs.org.uk or by phoning the FSCS on 0800 678 1100 or 0207 741 4100.
Your plan stays with you, not a specific funeral home. If you move within the UK or your circumstances change, we can update your details and make reasonable changes to your plan so it continues to reflect your wishes.
Yes. Your money is protected and held in line with funeral plan regulations. It is set aside to help ensure your funeral plan can be delivered when the time comes, providing reassurance for you and your family.
If you die abroad, your funeral plan can still be used. Your family or representative would need to arrange for your return to the UK, and once you are back, we will carry out the funeral arrangements as set out in your plan.
Yes. You can record your wishes and personalise your funeral plan in ways that are meaningful to you. Your funeral director will talk you through the options available and explain what can be included.
All plans could have extra costs at the time of your funeral. These could include:
where a ceremony or service is held at a different location to the cremation
for the burial or interment of ashes
the cost of buying a grave/lair as prices and availability vary across the UK
if you’re not a resident of the local area as the local cemetery or crematorium may charge for this
embalming and if we have to remove a medical device (for example, a pacemaker)
a memorial or headstone, including repair, cleaning, re-fixing or additional inscriptions and cost of a temporary grave marker
if your funeral takes place at a weekend, on a public holiday or out of normal working hours. These charges are fixed by the cemetery, churchyard, graveyard or local authority
if your funeral procession is more than 20 miles
additional items requested by the person arranging your funeral that are not already covered in your plan (for example, flowers, orders of service, limousines)
